Doors with increased burglary resistance

Doors with increased burglary resistance

A home is a place where we should feel safe, but increasingly, there are situations where an unauthorized person tries to enter our house.

According to police statistics, the number of burglaries has been steadily increasing year by year. Burglars attempt to break into our homes through windows and doors, which is why it is crucial to take appropriate measures to secure against potential break-ins.

Doors and windows with enhanced burglary resistance standards are designed to make it more difficult for unwanted guests to attempt a break-in. Such security measures prolong the time needed to force open doors or windows.

Classes of burglary resistance

We distinguish six classes of burglary resistance: RC1, RC2, RC3, RC4, RC5, and RC6. The most commonly chosen are RC2 and RC3.

What distinguishes these classes and what do they protect us from?

Class RC2:

  • Joinery of this class should be resistant to attempts to force entry using simple tools such as a screwdriver, wedge, or hammer.
  • The burglary attempt is extended by at least 3 minutes.

Class RC3:

  • This joinery should provide protection against the use of a crowbar, power drill, hammer, or chisel.
  • The time is extended by a minimum of 5 minutes.

What can be done to further secure the doors?

To ensure that our doors are fully secured, it is advisable to use concealed hinges.

The use of concealed hinges in doors not only enhances visual appeal but also protects against prying.

It is also worth considering anti-burglary bolts that prevent the door from being forced open by removing the hinge pins.

A multi-point lock is also a good solution, securing the door at three different points, with all three bolts operated by a single key. An additional lock would also be a good option.

A locking chain (the so-called rigid chain) and a peephole provide protection against letting unknown individuals into our home.

If our doors have glazing, P4 glass will increase resistance to puncturing or breaking with blunt or sharp tools.

In NEWAY doors, all the mentioned security solutions and devices are available as standard or as an option.

Complete Security of Our Home

To feel completely safe, it is also worth equipping yourself with windows and burglary-resistant shutters. When a thief fails to break in through the door, they may try through a window or even the garage door.

If we have a basement, it is advisable to install grilles on the windows, which will also prolong the break-in attempt.

If we are planning a vacation or another extended trip, monitoring or a smart home system can be very helpful. The holiday season is a favorite time of year for thieves.

Technologies in solutions for the joinery industry have advanced to the point that while relaxing far from home, we can check via our phone whether all the windows and doors are closed. This is a very useful solution that allows us to monitor the security of our home.
